For their first Runway in over five years, Soulland launched their SS20 menswear collection as well as first womenswear collection to date. The show was held in their beloved neighbourhood of Frederiksberg and is an ode to the community that has emerged around the brand. It was scored on solely Scandinavian music.
For Spring/Summer 2020, Soulland worked dynamics of being a pedestrian and the power of walking. In a series of field studies throughout the European capitals, Soulland gathered material on the cultural expressions of pedestrians: how their step tells their story. Studying the impact of culture on the basic ways of commuting and traveling, has shaped the design process and craftsmanship utilized.
Silas Adler, Creative Director, Jacob Kampp Berliner, CEO and Mathilde Maalouf, Head of Womenswear debuted Soulland womenswear during the show. Jacob Kampp Berliner noted: “The time is now right to finally launch our first collection as we have a strong team with the ability and ambition to elevate the task”.
Central to the design process, was creative openness and the ambition of creating an uncompromising aesthetic which will shape womenswear at Soulland. Silas Adler, discussing the design process of womenswear says: “Mathilde stepping in as Design director and launching our women’s collection is a blessing. She has given the brand and collection new dimensions".
Soulland was founded in 2002 by Jacob Kampp Berliner and Silas Adler. The brand is carried in the most relevant contemporary stores around the work and has collaborated with brands, artists and stores such as Nike, Andre Saraiva, Bodega Rose, Playboy Magazine, colette, Opening Ceremony and Goodhood.
